He bear out for being a more dispirited , alienate former member of The Seven , forced to kill people as part of Vought ’s experiments at Sage Grove . installment 7 brought more profoundness to the character , but that was short - lived thanks to his suicide . It ’s a shocking scene , but plays into the quality ’s mentality , with Lamplighter plead with former CIA Director Grace Mallory to kill him .

We wrote all that before we shake off Shawn , and once we cast Shawn and we insure how unspoilt he was and how soulful and weary and , in a weird fashion , sympathetic he made Lamplighter , I really regretted that we were killing him . If I could go back and do it again , knowing that I had Shawn and what he did with that character , I would have kept him alive for longer . But that was what that character was arc for from the beginning .
And , of path , there ’s no reason for the showrunners not to boast Lamplighter in time of year 3 by using flashback to his time in The Seven , and especially the incident where he slay Mallory ’s grandchild by error . So there is possible for Ashmore to return , and give the character more depth with his performance , as well as there being pick for Kripke and the team to mine the backstory to absolve Lamplighter ’s tax return in next episodes ofThe Boys . For now , though , fans are expect the time of year finale , which will hopefully let on exactly who blew up the heads of a number of key characters in the final scene of sequence 7 .
