Summary

There is n’t much I would alter about the originalMistborntrilogy , butI do bid epoch 1 spent more prison term on one tragicWell of Ascensionstoryline . The Well of Ascensionisthe second volume inMistbornEra 1 , and Brandon Sanderson raises the stakes of the chronicle as Vin , Elend , and Kelsier ’s crowd fight to maintain their hold on Luthadel . The group faces challenge from Elend ’s father and other lords seeking ability — and that ’s not to mention the mysterious power loaf in the mist . A lot happens inThe Well of Ascension , and it comes together in a satisfying agency .

I do n’t think Sanderson favors any storylines over the others , and the writer certainly does n’t forget to tie up unaffixed ending . Sanderson masterfully waver the threads of theMistborntrilogy together , and he typically give every fictional character and subplot the astuteness they deserve . However , there is one storyline fromThe Well of Ascensionthat I wish he expanded on further . Even though it finish in tragedy , it deserves more care , especially after its major twist .

Brandon Sanderson ’s Mistborn book have some of the good storytelling in fantasy , and they may lead reader wondering what to pluck up next .

I Wish Mistborn Era 1 Spent More Time Unpacking Zane’s Storyline From Book 2

Zane Is One Of Brandon Sanderson’s Most Intriguing Characters

TheoriginalMistbornbooksfeature passel of interesting characters , and Zane is among the most absorbing and tragic — butI wishThe Well of Ascensionspent more time on him . Zane is Elend ’s occult half - chum , and he ’s another Mistborn . He and Vin pass much ofMistbornbook two sparring with one another , but things bend deadly during their final confrontation . Although Sanderson gives referee a facial expression at Zane ’s relationship with Straff Venture , it ’s a ignominy we never get to see him interact with Elend . It ’s also dissatisfactory that the record does n’t explore his backstory in more profoundness .

I would much rather have delved more deeply into his psyche , especially after learning that Ruin was pull wires him the entire novel .

Although Zane is a pretty factious type among readers , his story inThe Well of Ascensionpaints the picture of a flawed man who does n’t make love where he stands . He develops intuitive feeling for Vin , take him to disobey his father ’s commands . However , I did n’t discover his advance towards Vin all that interesting . I would much rather have delved more deep into his psyche , particularly after learning that Ruin was manipulating him the entire novel . This , plus his conflicted desire , would have made for a gripping quality study .

The Well Of Ascension Doesn’t Dig Into Zane’s Backstory As Much As It Should

I Want To Know More About The Venture Family

Zane is a product of Straff Venture ’s function , as well as his efforts to bring forth a Mistborn child . With Elend lackingAllomantic powers at the beginning of theMistborntrilogy , it make sensory faculty that a power - hungry man like Straff would find other ways to think a Mistborn . However , it ’s surprising that he manages to hide someone like Zane from Elend and the other nobles for so long . The fact that Zane is n’t referenced inThe Final Empireraises dubiousness about where he was before joining Straff ’s U. S. Army . I want to know more about his upbringing , as well as his tense relationship with his father .

In universal , I do n’t cerebrate theMistbornnovels search the Venture family enough , especially break the impact they have on the Final Empire . Elend clearly has a portion of psychic trauma from his father , and Zane seems to as well . Despite this , the books do n’t take a bass dive into their pasts or human relationship dynamic . It ’s clear Straff does n’t have a bond with either of his Logos , but that just upraise questions about why Zane agrees to do his bid . There ’s also the topic of Zane ’s and Elend ’s mother , neither of whom are ever addressed .

Mistborn Doesn’t Give The Well Of Ascension’s Final Zane Reveal Enough Attention

Ruin’s Role In Zane’s Story Should Be A Bigger Deal

In addition to need more of Zane ’s backstory , I also want the originalMistbornbooks to properly handle that Ruin is the one mouth to Zane throughoutThe Well of Ascension . While this becomes clear to the reader as Sanderson ties everything together , it does n’t really get the exercising weight it deserves . For one , no one ever realize that Zane is hearing voices — or that Ruin is manipulating him the total clip . This is an unbelievably tragic revelation , and it makes me wonder what Zane would be like without his Hemalurgic spike giving style to Ruin ’s influence .

The fact that Zane is basically draw a blank directly after his death makes this worse , as the quality move on with small fanfare . His arc does a good problem of foreshadowing what ’s to come , and it helps Vin decide what she wants . However , it would have been courteous to see him get some manikin of justice or closure , asMistbornimplies that his more violent inclination arrive from Ruin . It does n’t make up for what he does throughoutThe Well of Ascension , but it still merit more identification .
