While Green Arrow was destined to die in the Crisis , Oliver still shift destiny by dying sooner and differently from how the Monitor had seen it . As Oliver refuses to stop fighting until he knows the Earth had been evacuated , the submarine throw his bow and dukes it out with a horde of Shadow Demons before being take aim back to Earth-1 .
While his sacrifice did have an encroachment , Oliver die in the presence of his allies which are where the Monitor is shocked that the time to come he had seen was already convert .
