The X - Fileswas such a cultural phenomenon that it ’s entered our corporate discernment of pop - culture . When something is strange , it can be distinguish as an “ X - File ” anytime . This show rap into the bitter distrustfulness that coursed through the 90 . But it did so with likeable mystery story , horror , and from time to time clowning . alas , not every episode is a gem . collapse that the serial is largely occasional , every new tale is like starting from scratch line , naturally leading to some missteps . Also , the supernatural elements of the show tolerate for some truly bizarre ideas that do n’t always work . Here ’s 10 sequence that fans did n’t care for , rank from least to most terrible . We do this with love , of course . listen the spoilers , but truthfully , you may need to quash these ' sodes anyway .
Ghost in the Machine
This is an episode all about killer artificial intelligence . That easily makes this the most dated episode of the show , because our understanding of figurer was still relatively new . To be fair , so wasThe X - Files , merely a few episodes into its inaugural time of year . But it ’s clear that the writers had to rely on former amusement to remove the computer terror . In fact , the story very clearly seems to recycleelements of HAL 9000from Stanley Kubrick’s2001 : A Space Odyssey . Sure , household reckoner had become more popular at the time , so it was surely tantalizing to wiretap into that tilt terrain . alas , it ’s all very rote and uninformed .
Fearful Symmetry
So , you do n’t have to be an aficionado of the alien phenomenon to know about oxen mutilation . It should n’t needfully be outside the realm of this show to view the foreign abductions of animals . But the assumption is just fuck up . The intent of the extraterrestrial being is so hideous , and the end in the instalment are very airheaded . This is that episode with the elephant and the invisible tiger . They went out of their manner to apply real beast which avoided the traps of unsound CGI , but the whole chronicle is just conceptually weak . Also , the episode tries to discuss the value orientation of creature rights , but even that feels wobbly .
Alpha
Season six was a big shift in tone , and even placement , for the series . Moving to Los Angeles , it seemed to lose all of the darkness . Both visually , and tonally . This new season was far more lighthearted than previous write up . In fact , “ Alpha ” directly follows one of the honest comedic episode of the show . But this terrible selection is about a pseudo - mythological domestic dog , keep company by corresponding , intolerable puns . The nifty criminal offence is probably the matter of Karin Berquist , who has a infatuation on Mulder . This causes some friction with Scully , who justifiedly suspects her . And the whirl is that it ’s all a were - firedog level . The whole trial by ordeal is comparatively boring , and silly . Oh , and not in that cagy , intentionalway that other installment reach .
3
It ’s understandable that fan would be pretty frustrated with this episode . Scully was completely absent , and Mulder is really quite different from the agency we make love him . The show suffered similar criticism when Duchovny himself ended up abandon the series for a while . That resulted in the pursuit of new star all in all . Without the dynamic duo though , the whole show light apart . However , this selection also tried some new touches on the mythology of vampires . And unfortunately , the show incorporate Duchovny ’s actual lady friend at the meter , Perrey Reeves . The whole “ erotic thriller ” step just did n’t work out .
My Struggle III
Ah yes , if there ’s one thing that will frustrate an consultation , it ’s the “ it was all a dream ” retcon . In this episode , it ’s reveal that Scully was still in the infirmary and was merely having a visual sensation . She was only envision everything that appeared to actually transpirate at the end of the prior season . This does make for a fun ticking clock , but fan will always find oneself that deus ex machina cheap . And , unluckily , the show seems to be in a very big haste . Sure , it ’s lucky that the revival happened at all . But perhaps a devil - of - the - calendar week should have been sacrificed to allow for more mythology storytelling .
First Person Shooter
This is theTronepisode , if you ’re judge to point it . At this point , the show just does n’t have the alibi of exist in the 90s to misunderstand computers so mischievously . The proficient lingo is all over the place , and especially these days , it stands out like a sore quarter round . The story try out to cut into into virtual reality , and it makes for a lot of goofy sequences . In fact , the installment almost finger like one of those intentionally speculative movies on SyFy , likeSharknado . Everything feel over the top , and by time of year seven , fan were really in the mysterious end of a tailspinning show .
Babylon
The revivification was always die to be troublesome . No matter how it re - approached the characters and mythology , it would n’t please everyone . But in this sequence , they finally get Mulder high-pitched . Having Mulder dance in a rodeo is one of the most surrealistic and mortifying things the show ’s ever done . And contrasted with the act of terrorism in the tarradiddle , it does n’t fit whatsoever . That ’s a very sensitive matter , and this episode does n’t manage the conversation very well . And further , by the end of the sequence , the admirer outright vocalise the writers ’ reflection . This show used to flourish on subverted expected value . The revival meeting was far more literal , and less nuanced .
Space
It was reasonably ambitious of the show to attempt a story involving the existent blank program . In this episode , an spaceman seems to have been possessed by something , and decades later counteract launches . It ’s a half - seemly premise , but the entire yield is marred by a trust on strain footage . But the playscript is also fairly knotty . Mulder and Scully actually execute very little throughout the history . They ’re merely trying to figure out the mystery , which the hearing already knows the reply to . And the guest worker but are n’t up to the undertaking of carrying their weight . Ultimately , the game is therefore very meandering and unsatisfying .
Fight Club
What a gross title , given that no one want to sing about this sequence . tardily in season seven , installment like these really reinforce the opinion that everyone is tired ofThe go - Files . Even the creators themselves . The premise of two women ’s proximity inciting violence is just plain uninteresting , and outrageous . Even for this show , and even for an attempt at funniness . The music throughout the sequence is unbearable , and even the performing was lackluster . Which is strange , because when firing on all cylinders , the comedic episode have generally hand passably mellow rankings . Comedy may be subjective , but this installment is clearly ineffective to toe the line between fatuous and silly fun .
Teso dos Bichos
This instalment is an absolute hole from start to end , muddled with tangents . The consistent ambiguity seems to be some attempt at generating mystery , but it ’s just puzzling . Nothing bind together properly , and there ’s no suspense without coherence . What ’s really startling about this season three episode is how work-shy everything feel . The guest actors are all miserable to watch . This is rightfully unfortunate , since Mulder and Scully are essentially sidelined , once again . And the threat is terribly silly , which completely subvert the tone . That ’s likely the large offense of the episode . The ridiculous concepts are pray for funniness , but the story takes everything badly .
