In fact , the story very clearly seems to recycleelements of HAL 9000from Stanley Kubrick’s2001 : A Space Odyssey . Sure , household reckoner had become more popular at the time , so it was surely tantalizing to wiretap into that tilt terrain . alas , it ’s all very rote and uninformed .

And the threat is terribly silly , which completely subvert the tone . That ’s likely the large offense of the episode . The ridiculous concepts are pray for funniness , but the story takes everything badly .
